SEO guide: the priorities for improving your website
Search engine optimisation aims to make your content accessible and understandable for search engines as well as for visitors. Before adding more tools, start with the pages that matter most to your business and the obstacles you have actually observed.
Contents
Toggle1. Give each page a clear role
A service page meets a commercial need. An article explains a question. A portfolio entry shows concrete work. This division helps avoid having several near-identical pages.
Describe your offer in your clients’ words, without forcing a keyword density. The information must be accurate, useful and supported by evidence when you present results.
2. Make your content easy to discover
Link to important pages from the menu and from relevant content. Links should make it clear what the visitor will find next. Check for broken links and pages that have become hard to reach.
A sitemap helps to submit URLs, but does not guarantee that they will be indexed. Robots directives, canonicals and redirects must remain consistent with the role of each page.
3. Take care of titles and readability
Write precise titles and descriptions specific to each page. Subheadings organise the content and images should support useful information. Contextual links let readers go further without repeating the whole topic. These principles are in line with Google’s SEO Starter Guide. They are not a guarantee of ranking.
4. Review performance and mobile use
A page that is slow or hard to use deserves a diagnosis. Compare measurements taken under similar conditions and look at the concrete elements: images, scripts, page stability and interactions. The Core Web Vitals distinguish between loading, responsiveness and visual stability. A one-off lab test is no substitute for data from real visitors.
5. Measure what matters
Search Console can help you track searches and organic clicks for the right domain. Compare these observations with the enquiries you receive and how relevant they are to your business. Document your changes and allow enough time before comparing. A variation can have several causes: it does not automatically prove the effect of a particular change.
What about answers from AI-powered search engines?
Google states that SEO fundamentals still apply to its AI features in Search. No special file or markup guarantees a citation. Accessible pages and accurate information about your services and your work remain a useful foundation.
